About Veterans Affairs Medical Center Collaborative Add and Recovery Program

The Collaborative Addition & Recovery Service (CARS), formerly Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP) at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, in Providence, Rhode Island offers an interdisciplinary team approach to the treatment of substance use disorders and other addictive behaviors.

The CARS recognizes that addiction is a multifactorial illness with physical, social and emotional impairments varying in severity from mild problems to severe dependence. The course of addiction may vary radically among individuals. Recognizing this, the CARS provides a comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan specific to the needs of the veteran and his/her family. The goal of the CARS is to assist the veteran to refine and develop healthy coping skills that will support their recovery from addiction, and lead to an improved quality life and fulfilling relationships. We provide a continuum of care based on the severity of the illness and the strengths, needs and goals of the veteran.
