Assurant Health Coverage for Drug and Alcohol Detox & Addiction Treatment

Author:

First founded in 1892, Assurant Health got its start as a disability insurance provider. Over the years, the company entered the group health insurance market and today is a leading independent, small group health insurance carrier. If you have an Assurance Health plan, coverage for drug and alcohol detox and addiction treatment is included in your plan benefits.

While drug and alcohol abuse may start out as a casual indulgence, it soon turns into an out-of-control habit that takes over your life when left unchecked. Not surprisingly, money problems soon become an issue as a growing addiction takes hold.

If drug or alcohol abuse has all but depleted your financial reserves, it helps to know your Assurant Health plan will pick up a good portion of your treatment costs. At this point, finding a detox program that offers the level of care you need and finding one that accepts your insurance plan becomes the task at hand. Detox.com can help you on both fronts.

Does Assurant Health Cover Drug & Alcohol Detox?

Stopping drug (or alcohol) use altogether is an essential first step towards overcoming addiction. Whether you’ve abused drugs for several weeks or several years, once you lose the ability to reduce or stop using there’s a need for some level of detox treatment care.

Assurant Health offers two main policy plans: CoreMed and OneDeductible. While the CoreMed plan may cover detox treatment, certain conditions must be met and these conditions can vary from policy to policy as well as state to state.

On the other hand, the OneDeductible plan will likely cover detox care. Also, with the OneDeductible plan, a deductible requirement and a coinsurance requirement will also apply, with coinsurance costs running as high as 50 percent of the overall cost.

Types of detox programs covered by the OneDeductible plan include:

Does Assurant Health Cover Drug & Alcohol Rehab?

Addiction recovery seldom ends at the detox stage, but rather entails ongoing rehab treatment to address the addiction aspect of drug or alcohol-using behaviors. Programs designed to help you confront and work through the addiction problem include:

  • Residential programs
  • Sober living programs
  • Outpatient programs
  • Intensive outpatient programs
  • 12 Step support groups

Assurant Health does provide coverage for rehab treatment; however, only the OneDeductible plan provides benefits for rehab care. Again, your range of coverage options depends on your particular policy conditions.

Assurant Health plans also vary in terms of the type of network coverage any single plan has. Whereas some plans work within a managed care network, other more flexible plans may belong to a PPO or Preferred Provider Network. These differences may well determine your choice of rehab programs, especially if you have a managed care plan.

How Long Will Assurant Health Cover Detox Services?

Assurant Health will help cover detox costs; begin your recovery today!

Addiction problems carry a high risk of relapse in general, especially in cases of long-term substance abuse. The effects of drugs and alcohol wear away at the brain’s physical makeup, while at the same time driving users to engage in substance-abusing behaviors at an increasing rate. For these reasons, it’s important not to rush the recovery process, including the detox stage.

Assurant Health will cover your detox care for as long as treatment is deemed medically necessary. Medically necessary carries certain conditions, including:

  • Symptoms experienced must be consistent with a substance abuse withdrawal diagnosis
  • Services provided must be accepted forms of treatment
  • Ongoing care should bring about an expected improvement in your condition
  • Services must be provided within the least intensive treatment setting needed to produce continued progress

Does Assurant Health Provide Coverage for Luxury Detox & Other Non-Essential Benefits?

Luxury detox programs go above and beyond in terms of the types of services and accommodations they offer. Most of these programs do follow standard treatment approaches, but also tend to offer alternative therapies that work to enhance your recovery experience.

While each program is different, a typically luxury detox program may offer one or more of the following amenities:

  • Private rooms
  • Scenic settings, such as facilities located by the ocean or in the mountains
  • Gourmet dining
  • Alternative therapies, such as equine therapy, Reiki therapy and/or yoga therapy

Not surprisingly, many of the services offered by luxury programs aren’t essential to the detox process, so your plan may not cover them. While your plan may only cover medically necessary services, that doesn’t mean you can’t choose a luxury detox program. Assurant Health will pay for services deemed medically necessary, but you’ll have to pay out-of-pocket for any services that fall outside these criteria.

How Can I Cover the Excess Costs of Detox That Are NOT Covered by Insurance?

Assurant Health coverage may well help offset the costs of treatment, but out-of-pocket expenses can add up all the same. Most any plan you choose will have a deductible, copay and maybe even coinsurance requirements, and if you require long-term rehab services these costs can make it difficult to get the level of care you need.

Fortunately, a number of rehab programs will work with you to help make treatment costs more affordable. Depending on your situation, you may qualify for one or more of the following payment assistance options:

  • Making monthly payments
  • Sliding-fee scale cost adjustments based on your monthly or yearly income
  • Grant or scholarship funding
  • Third-party financing
