A new facility in Chautauqua County added five medically supervised detoxification beds. They also added 20 substance use disorder treatment beds to a region state leaders describe as a mental health care desert.
New York Medical Center officially opened inside the former Lakeshore Hospital in Irving leasing the building from Main Rd Med Group. Along with the aforementioned additions, staff plan to add behavioral health services over the next two years.

State Sen. George Borrello worked to keep Lakeshore Hospital open before it closed in 2020. He said the closure stripped the region of critical inpatient behavioral health and chemical dependency beds
Access to inpatient treatment can be especially difficult in rural areas, Borrello said. Having these services available in northern Chautauqua County will give individuals and families another treatment option when they need help.
