New Medical Detox Clinic Opens in Crescent City, California

The clinic offers two FDA-approved medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) as part of its medication-assisted treatment program:

Methadone is a long-acting opioid agonist that reduces cravings and withdrawal symptoms without producing the euphoric highs associated with illicit opioid use. It must be dispensed daily at a licensed OTP clinic, which is precisely why local access is so vital.

Buprenorphine (commonly prescribed as Suboxone, which combines buprenorphine with naloxone) is a partial opioid agonist that suppresses withdrawal, curbs cravings, and carries a ceiling effect that lowers overdose risk. It can also be prescribed for take-home use, offering greater flexibility for patients in recovery.
