New Methadone Treatment Units Open in Northern Colorado

Northern Colorado just received two new options for medication-assisted treatment. Porch Light Health and Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center opened new CBHC medication units in September, one inside Porch Light Health’s Fort Collins clinic at 702 W. Drake Rd., Building D, and one at its Greeley clinic at 8223 W 20th St.

It expands methadone treatment access in the same places where patients receive outpatient addiction care.

Why This Expansion Matters

The expansion comes as drug overdose deaths are on the rise again in Colorado. According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, 1,765 people died from drug overdoses in 2025.

It’s a 10 percent increase from 2024, and roughly 65 percent more than in 2019. Against that backdrop, adding methadone capacity in Fort Collins and Greeley is an attempt to close a gap in evidence based care.

What the New Medication Units Offer

Under CBHC’s licensed opioid treatment program, the units operate as federally regulated medication units. They dose methadone on site.

Because they’re in Porch Light Health clinics, patients can get the full spectrum of FDA-approved medications for opioid use disorder in one place, such as methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone. They’re provided in combination with counseling, behavioral health and psychiatric care, infectious disease treatment and other medical support.

Access is designed to be low-barrier. Walk-ins are welcome, same-day intake and dosing are available whenever possible and the programs accept Medicaid, Medicare and Tricare. Staff help patients understand coverage and payment options.

Understanding Methadone in Detox and Treatment

Methadone is a long-acting opioid agonist used in opioid use disorder treatment. It reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings without producing the rapid highs of short-acting opioids. This helps people stay engaged in treatment.

Buprenorphine works in a similar way. It has a ceiling effect that lowers overdose risk, while naltrexone blocks opioid effects entirely, and suits people who have already completed detox. All three are evidence based components of medication assisted treatment and decades of research support MAT as the standard of care for opioid use disorder.
