Alpha II Inc in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, is permanently closed. Their mission was to promote quality of life by advocating and encouraging barrier free community based substance abuse services.
Located in a rural and peaceful setting, the facility sat on 5 acres of land where residents could enjoy outdoor activities such as basketball, volleyball and horseshoes.
Evidence Based Treatment Modalities
Their treatment philosophy incorporated a variety of techniques and settings, including individual, group and family counseling. They used evidence based treatment modalities and incorporated the 12 step program of recovery used in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
I like that the program utilized a six dimension approach to address various domains that affect substance use. These included your social, spiritual, family, physical and environmental and vocational domains.
The program was for men aged 18 years and older who had a substance dependence or abuse challenge and had no record of violent offenses.
Home Like Environment
Alpha 2 was a 30 bed facility where men could receive home cooked meals and had access to a full kitchen and dining hall.
I like that they had a family program that incorporated family members, helping them understand why their loved ones behave the way they do. The family counseling program included education, treatment and role playing exercises.

Gayle Morris, BSN, MSN, received her bachelor’s from the University of Illinois Chicago Medical Center and her first master’s from the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. She practiced nursing for over two decades with a focus on pediatric physical rehabilitation, which required mental health skills to help children, and their parents work through new challenges after a head injury or spinal cord injury. She has been a freelance writer in health, wellness, and mental health for over 15 years. She loves exercise, her dogs and guinea pigs, and gardening.
