Howard House
About Howard House
Howard House is a 15 bed residential treatment facility in Ellicott City, Maryland, operated by Tuerk House, Inc. The program serves adult men working toward recovery from substance use disorders. It offers medium and low intensity residential care using evidence based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, the Matrix Model, and 12 step facilitation.
Howard House provides a structured and supportive setting for men who have completed detox in another facility and are ready to strengthen their commitment to long term sobriety.
Men’s Residential Addiction Treatment in Ellicott City
Howard House focuses on gender specific treatment that reflects the unique recovery needs of adult men, including young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 years. The residential model encourages peer support and accountability, creating an environment where residents can process past experiences, strengthen social skills and build healthy routines alongside others who share similar goals.
Treatment includes daily individual and group counseling sessions within a highly organized schedule that provides at least five hours of clinical services each day. Programming addresses anger management, relapse prevention and substance use education. Care is guided by trauma informed principles and may include family counseling to support long term healing and stability.
Stepping Stone Approach to Recovery
Howard House offers two levels of intensity that allow residents to advance at a pace that fits their progress. Medium intensity programming provides continuous, structured supervision and therapeutic engagement throughout the day and night. Low intensity services offer greater flexibility, allowing residents to participate in educational programs, vocational training, or community activities as they prepare for independent living.
This gradual approach helps men develop confidence, responsibility, and practical life skills while maintaining consistent clinical and peer support.
They work with most major insurance plans, including Medicaid, Medicare, and private coverage. Sliding scale fees and financial assistance options are also available for eligible individuals.
