The David J. Thatcher VA Clinic of the Montana VA Health Care System is situated in semi rural Missoula, Montana. To assist veterans and their families in overcoming substance use disorders they offer medication assisted treatment (MAT). Referrals are not necessary.
They provide drugs that reduce the risk of death from substance use disorders and treat withdrawal symptoms. It also curb cravings and prevent relapses. Methadone, buprenorphine and extended release naltrexone are available to treat opioid use disorder. For alcohol use disorders acamprosate, disulfiram and naltrexone are prescribed. Tobacco use disorders can be treated with nicotine replacement therapy, bupropion and valenicline.
Comprehensive care is available for veterans with co-occurring mental health conditions like PTSD and depression. They provide group therapy, counseling, and customized medication. Alongside primary care, their programs also address social needs like housing and employment.
Although this is an outpatient facility, they can recommend an inpatient facility if you need round the clock supervision. Though it can range from a few weeks to several months the average length of stay is six weeks.
