University of New Mexico Hospital Addictions and Substance Abuse is a treatment center providing comprehensive addiction services in Albuquerque.

Part of New Mexico’s largest teaching hospital and community mental health provider, the program offers medical detox, inpatient and outpatient treatment and medication assisted treatment for adults with substance use disorders.

With over 50 years of experience since 1967, UNM Hospital combines academic excellence with compassionate, evidence based care that addresses the full spectrum of addiction recovery needs.

Dedicated Services for Native Americans

UNM Hospital offers a full continuum of addiction services including medical detox for alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, cocaine and methamphetamines.

The 47 bed inpatient program provides 24/7 care within a general hospital setting, ensuring access to full medical support when needed.

Treatment integrates cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, trauma counseling and relapse prevention training through individual and group sessions.

Medication assisted treatment options include methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone and Vivitrol for opioid and alcohol addiction.

The program also specializes in dual diagnosis care for cooccurring mental health and substance use disorders, with dedicated services for Native Americans featuring culturally appropriate treatment and priority access.

Milagro Program for Pregnant and Postpartum Women

The pioneering Milagro Program has served over 2,000 pregnant and postpartum women with substance use disorders since 1989, making it the first and most established program of its kind in New Mexico.

Using a harm reduction model, Milagro provides judgment free care that supports both maternal recovery and healthy outcomes for babies, with partnerships extending support to at risk children up to age three.
