About Inova CATS Program

The Inova CATS Program in Falls Church, Virginia, has offered live-in medical detox for adults since 1982. Since they’re part of a hospital, you’ll have access to medical assistance for any underlying health conditions. Detox usually takes between three and seven days. Medical staff will monitor you throughout the process to treat any uncomfortable or dangerous withdrawal effects.

Falls Church has a welcoming small town feel with many gorgeous parks to visit, such as Lincoln Park, Big Chimney’s Park or Skyline Park. Many people enjoy walking through the neighborhood as the streets are beautiful. Being outside in nature has a healing effect on your mind and emotions. It’s a great way to start re-integrating back into your community.

There are many opportunities close by for sober activities such as the Creative Cauldron nonprofit theater or the Cyber Raccoon Escape Room. Those who appreciate creativity can take in Torres Artworks or MOD Arts, a museum and art gallery.

Once all the toxins have cleared your system, you can either transfer to a live-in program or join their outpatient sessions. One aspect of therapy that stood out to me is that they teach you how to set boundaries. Not being able to say no leads to a loss of control, which triggers addictive behaviors. Boundaries are important for all aspects of life, not just the ability to say no to drugs or alcohol.

You’ll also learn essential relationship skills. Being able to communicate your needs can help you build a support system to enable long term recovery. Healthy communication can defuse situations that previously would have had the potential to trigger a relapse.
