A Crisis Stabilization Unit & Drug Detox Center in Central Nebraska

The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) can provide you with a safe and structured space to address your mental health issues and undergo medically assisted detox. The CSU is open 24/7, and features six beds for detox, and another 6 for the purpose of mental health stabilization.

Whether for detox or mental health stabilization, you can expect to complete a triage process, which includes a nursing and risk assessment to ensure you’re medically stable enough to receive treatment. Admission is voluntary, and you must be well enough to have basic mobility and perform basic self-care activities like eating, using the bathroom without assistance. You must also be open to taking part in activities on the unit.

If you don’t meet the admission criteria, staff can help refer you to a more appropriate alternative and support you in developing a safety plan. No one who seeks help at the CSU will receive a bill for reaching out for help.

What to Expect at the CSU in Grand Island

Once your initial symptoms have stabilized, usually within around 24-72 hours, you’ll be expected to engage in structured treatment programming. This includes counseling, case management, and peer support to help you plan out your next steps.

Smoking is allowed on the unit at scheduled times, though clients must provide their own cigarettes. You aren’t allowed to roll your own tobacco.

The whole detox and symptom stabilization process typically lasts around 3-5 days, with clients encouraged to consider continuing care services. If you opt for residential programming, CSU can arrange transport directly to your desired facility.

Levels of Care

  • Outpatient

In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.

  • Aftercare

Aftercare programs provide ongoing support after you complete a rehab program. They may include several components to help you maintain sobriety including therapy, community support groups and relapse prevention strategies. This gives you a network of resources as you reintegrate into your daily life.

  • Intervention

An intervention is a structured and professionally guided conversation with an individual who is struggling with addiction. During the conversation, family and friends will encourage you to seek treatment. This is often a pivotal step for those resistant to getting help.

Detox Service Setting

  • Outpatient Detox

Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.

  • MAT

Medication assisted treatment combines medication and counseling to manage withdrawal and reduce cravings for opioid and alcohol addiction. Medications may include methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone. MAT is tailored to your needs so you can actively participate in your treatment journey.

Programs

  • Teen (13 - 18)

  • Adult (18+)

  • Young Adult (18 - 25)

Young adult programs are designed for individuals who are transitioning into adulthood. Topics of discussion typically include identity, independence and peer relationships. Providers may also offer life skills training and career support.

  • Women

Women's programs offer a safe and supportive space to focus on gender specific issues such as trauma, family roles and mental health conditions. Therapists tailor the sessions to address women's needs and foster empowerment in a healing and nurturing environment.
