Norfolk Community Health Center
About Norfolk Community Health Center
Norfolk Community Health Center in Virginia offers a continuum of care including mental health, dental, and primary health. The center focuses on the underserved members and uninsured community members to provide care for adults and youth.
The center accepts Medicaid, Medicare and other major insurance coverages. If clients are uninsured or underinsured, they may be eligible for a sliding scale fee. The team can also assist in applying for healthcare. LGBTQ+ community members are welcome.
Your initial visit includes a screening and assessment. The results of these are used to create a treatment plan for you. If it’s determined you need residential treatment, you’ll be referred to a local facility.
The center offers medication assisted detox. Your primary care physician at the center will manage and prescribe your medications. If it’s determined you have a co-occurring mental health disorder, you’ll be treated for both diagnoses.
Substance Use Counseling
With your medications, you’ll receive substance use counseling. There’s no way for us to resolve a problem until we are educated about the problem. Counseling will provide education about addiction while teaching you how to cope with triggers and cravings.
If you’re using public transportation, there are bus stops just beside the center. The Elizabeth River Waterfront offers a number of areas for meditation, exercise, or to shop.
Town Point Parks is located along the banks of the river and offers greenery and a place of relaxation in nature. The 1.14 mile trail passes the park, the Waterside Marina, and the USS Wisconsin.
