About Olivias House

Olivia’s House is part of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Centers (ADATC) network. This facility treats alcoholism and drug addiction as a primary, progressive, and fatal disease. They believe with treatment and abstinence, everyone has a chance for recovery.

Specialized Help for Parents in Recovery

Those of us who are single parents of young children know that it can be difficult for us to participate in much needed services. The house provides aftercare for women who have completed ADATC’s residential program.

Women and their children ages 10 or under can reside at the house for 12 months. Those who do not choose to do residential aftercare can come for outpatient treatment.

Substance Use Treatment for Women

Treatment for women includes substance abuse group therapy. Women are placed in groups specific to the topic that relates their needs. These groups include domestic violence, sexual abuse, spirituality, relationships, health care, and nicotine addiction groups.

Twelve step support groups are available on site. As a parent, you will participate in parenting training, family counseling, and family education.

Referral for Detox

If you are in need of detoxification, the house can refer you to their residential treatment program. If you have already been placed on medications, the house will continue to monitor them. You will receive medical screening to see if you need to be treated for anything medically.

Treatment and Services for Children

You can ensure your child will be well taken care of with a developmental child care center and tutoring. Your child will be screened for developmental, speech, language, vision, hearing, nutritional and dental needs in an effort to discover services that are essential for your child.

The children also receive psychiatric care, sick care and well child care. The house partners with Birmingham Health Care for the Homeless Pediatric Clinic, the Maternal Infant Network at University Hospital Clinic, the Children’s Hospital and the Jefferson County Public Health Clinic to provide these services.

Care extends beyond substance use and psychiatry. Women are assisted with adult education, job readiness training, income assistance, housing assistance, parent aides, head start and other services.
