The medical center offers a full continuum of substance use treatment services, including hospital inpatient detox, a 169 bed domiciliary for long term residential care, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs and regular outpatient treatment.

Dual Diagnosis Care Tailored to Vets

With specialized dual diagnosis capabilities and trauma informed care, Hampton VA Medical Center supports veterans facing substance use disorders alongside PTSD, military sexual trauma and other cooccurring mental health conditions.

Treatment often begins with medically supervised hospital inpatient detoxification, where withdrawal is managed safely under clinical oversight.

Veterans can then transition into the domiciliary residential program or step down to partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient care, depending on their clinical needs and recovery goals.

Medications to Maintain Sobriety

Programs integrate individual, group, and family counseling with evidence based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and 12 step facilitation.

Medication assisted treatment with methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone is available for opioid and alcohol use disorders, and specialized services address trauma, dual diagnosis, and relapse prevention to support long term recovery.
