Cumberland Hall Hospital

About Cumberland Hall Hospital
Cumberland Hall Hospital is in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, only a 15 minute drive from Fort Campbell. This is a behavioral health center that treats children, adolescents, and adults. They’re accredited by The Joint Commission, and they have inpatient and outpatient programs, including a medical detox program. The medical detox is for adults 18 and up only.
They accept Indiana Medicaid, Medicare, TRICARE, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cenpatico, and Coventry. They also take Kentucky Medicaid but only for patients up to 20 years of age.
There’s a special track for military clients that includes medical detox and inpatient and outpatient chemical dependency programs. The detox program for all adults (military and nonmilitary) is a medical detox. You’ll be supervised around the clock to manage any medical issues occurring because of the detox.
Detox is different for everyone depending on the type of substances used, the severity, and the length of time you’ve been using. Most people can detox in about a week, though for some it may take longer. While you’re going through detox, your body is slowly getting rid of all the toxins. You’ll be given medications to keep you more comfortable through the withdrawal process and monitored for any medical problems arising from detox.
The first step to recovery is detox because it breaks your body’s dependency on the substances you’ve been using. Once you’ve broken the physical dependency, it’s time to sort out the psychological aspects of your substance use. Many people with substance use have a co-occurring disorder called a dual diagnosis. The co-occurring disorder may be anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, or some other mental health challenge. While in detox, you’ll be assessed for any co-occurring disorders.
Once you’ve completed detox, your treatment team will help you decide on your next steps. You may move into the inpatient program. If you can’t commit to an inpatient program, they also have outpatient programs to help you commit to your sobriety.
There’s also a special track for teens, aged 13-17. While they don’t have medical detox for teens, you can go through social detox, which involves therapy and peer support programs. You can attend treatment while at Cumberland’s onsite school. You’ll have six hours of classes each day during the school year and four hours per day during summer. That way, you won’t have to fall behind your classes even if you’re staying at the hospital.
