Bay Area First Step Inc is a peer-run nonprofit providing outpatient substance use disorder treatment and recovery support services in Coos Bay and throughout Oregon’s coastal region.
The organization offers person-centered treatment programs, DUII services, harm reduction support, and NARR-accredited recovery housing for individuals struggling with alcohol, opioid, methamphetamine, and other substance use disorders.
Peer-Led Substance Use Disorder Treatment
Bay Area First Step is entirely owned, governed, and managed by peers with personal recovery experience. The organization provides outpatient treatment using evidence based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Seeking Safety for trauma.
Each client receives a dedicated peer mentor throughout their entire journey, ensuring continuity of care and personalized support. Those needing detox treatment are referred to a local treatment facility.
Treatment incorporates biopsychosocial assessment, individualized recovery planning, and Contingency Management with incentive-based rewards, addressing both immediate needs and underlying issues while respecting diverse pathways to recovery including 12-Step, faith-based, and cultural healing approaches.
Comprehensive Recovery Housing Continuum
Bay Area First Step operates a renovated 40-unit recovery residence with two emergency stabilization units, 16-bed transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing options. The NARR-accredited Housing First model welcomes individuals actively using substances as well as those pursuing abstinence.
Peer navigators providing transportation and street outreach. As a designated Oregon Health Authority Facilitating Center, the organization provides mentor site training for peer organizations statewide.
