Primary Focus
- Addiction Recovery
Sanford House at Cherry Street has room for ten residents. Unlike many other women’s rehab centers, our small scale allows the treatment team to approach each client’s care on an individual basis. In addition, client and therapist work collaboratively to establish a plan for treatment. This way, clients focus on those concerns that are central to their sobriety.
Every recovery journey is unique. Our clients come to us with unique perspectives, experiences, and ideas of sobriety and health. This is why we believe it is important to tailor treatment to the individual. In this way, the women at Sanford House at Cherry Street are treated with respect.
The programming at Sanford House provides opportunities to experience snippets of “everyday life” and exercise recovery skills outside of treatment. Excursions encourage residents to re-engage with the world around them… and rediscover forgotten passions and develop new ones.
Our family program educates family members on how to best support a loved one in early recovery. Family members are encouraged to participate in family therapy sessions while their loved one is enrolled in services at Sanford House. Additionally, Marriage and Family Therapist Lynnel Brewster hosts an evening education course for family members. This program is intended to advocate for and encourage our clients’ loved ones. The Family Program teaches family members about the disease of addiction, what to expect after a loved one returns home from treatment, and available resources such as ALANON.
Sanford House is located within a vibrant West Michigan community. Grand Rapids offers its residents a rich blend of local art and urban flair… as well as lush walking trails and lakeside excursions. We describe ourselves as “unapologetically located in the Midwest.” In fact, we believe our Midwestern values are key to our many treatment successes.
Adjacent to medical institutions, universities and a bustling downtown, the Grand Rapids landscape encourages newly sober folks to navigate a balance between treatment and real life in recovery. When it’s time to return home, our secure location ensures privacy and anonymity.
Our programming incorporates community involvement, early recovery support and aftercare resources. Our wellness activities introduce residents to healthy nutrition and exercise routines, spiritual growth and creative expression. Many of these activities (like cooking, yoga, painting or meditating) may have been forgotten in active addiction.
Meals are prepared on site by a private chef. These fresh, whole, garden-to-table options redefine “comfort food.” Because we believe caring for the body is an important part of recovery. For this same reason, the bedrooms at Sanford House are designed to encourage a restful and complete night’s sleep.
