About Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center
Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center on West Lake Street in Chicago, Illinois, provides a variety of programs and services for addiction treatments to build an individualized treatment experience for adults struggling with addiction. They are a nonprofit organization and do not turn away people who are unable to pay for services. They believe recovery is a process and should include education, employment readiness, interpersonal relationships and social reintegrative abilities and activities.
Unique Vestibule Intensive Outpatient Program
The Vestibule Intensive Outpatient Program is one of the distinguishing characteristics of the facility. It allows clients to choose between a SMART Recovery or a 12 Step model so the initial treatment plan is built around your choice. You will visit one of each meeting to understand the concepts before making a decision.
You Choose a Recovery Support Group to Meet Your Needs
The SMART Recovery program is an international community of peer support that uses the latest addiction recovery tools. SMART stands for Self-Management And Recovery Training. This program is designed to help you become self empowered to overcome addictive challenges independently without relying on a religious foundation.
SMART and 12 Step models are some of the support meetings they offer. Others include Recovery Dharma that relies on the wisdom of Buddha, and rational emotive behavioral therapy that focuses on the cognitive elements of disturbance. Finally, they have a recovery support meeting for meditation which encourages and develops your concentration and emotional clarity.

Gayle Morris, BSN, MSN, received her bachelor’s from the University of Illinois Chicago Medical Center and her first master’s from the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. She practiced nursing for over two decades with a focus on pediatric physical rehabilitation, which required mental health skills to help children, and their parents work through new challenges after a head injury or spinal cord injury. She has been a freelance writer in health, wellness, and mental health for over 15 years. She loves exercise, her dogs and guinea pigs, and gardening.
