About Gateway Foundation

Gateway Chicago Independence, which is operated by Gateway Foundation, offers addiction treatment services to adults in Chicago, Illinois. They were recognized by Newsweek as one of America’s Best Addiction Treatment Centers in 2024. The facility provides services such as medication assisted treatment (MAT) and co-occurring disorders treatment.

Medication and Behavioral Therapy Combined

During your MAT services, you’ll have medications administered to you by the health professionals and physicians on staff. The dosage of medication you’ll receive will be consistently monitored to make sure that you’re comfortable and safe throughout the process. The timeline for how long you’ll take medications such as methadone or buprenorphine can vary from a few months to a few years.

The facility can taper you off these medications as you complete your treatment. Your counselor will be treating you with therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and recreational activities.

The goal of these therapies will be to help you develop coping mechanisms that prevent you from relapsing in the future. Recreational activities such as animal therapy, adventure therapy and art and music therapy will introduce you to new ways that you can minimize your stress.

Virtual Treatment Options For Convenience

One thing I really like about Gateway Foundation is they allow you to access therapy online through their virtual outpatient treatment services. This can help you be better able to balance your recovery with your professional and personal obligations.

Out of over 100 reviews, Gateway Chicago Independence averaged a 4.3 star rating. A reviewer appreciated that the environment was clean and positive and that the staff was professional.

This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.

  • Outpatient

In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.

Detox Service Setting

  • Inpatient Detox

Inpatient detox occurs in a dedicated treatment facility. You’ll live there around the clock and receive intensive medical support and supervision to help manage your withdrawal symptoms. It is suitable for individuals with moderate to severe addictions as it ensures a stable detox environment.

  • Outpatient Detox

Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.

  • MAT

Medication assisted treatment combines medication and counseling to manage withdrawal and reduce cravings for opioid and alcohol addiction. Medications may include methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone. MAT is tailored to your needs so you can actively participate in your treatment journey.
