Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health
About Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health
Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health is a mental health and substance use disorder treatment center. The facility is on Speissegger Drive in a lush corner of North Charleston, South Carolina. They offer comprehensive services for treating substance use and co-occurring disorders, including inpatient, outpatient, and medical detox programs.
They offer inpatient and outpatient behavioral health programs for teens 12-17, but the detox and substance use treatment programs are for adults 18 and up. The center accepts most major commercial insurance plans. They also accept TRICARE for military personnel and Veterans as well as Medicare. If you’re in the military, you can attend the Patriot Support Programs which are specific to Veterans and active military members.
The center has an inpatient medical detox. Detox is an important step in treating substance use disorder. During detox, you’ll rid your body of toxic substances which helps break the physical part of your addiction. You’ll have around the clock supervision and medication, if necessary, to help alleviate uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. The program is psychiatrist led, and you’ll work toward the goal of successfully reintegrating into your community.
While in the program, you and your treatment team will identify any co-occurring or dual diagnosis disorders, which may include anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, or other mental health issues. You can meet individually or in groups, to build fellowship when tackling these conditions. Their facility offers plenty of open spaces, bright colors and warm lighting, which can be conducive to healing.
You’ll participate in structured group therapy and attend daily 12 Step meetings, like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). You’ll learn about addiction and relapse prevention skills. When you’ve finished the detox and inpatient program, you can attend the C.A.R.E. Program which meets from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. It’s a five-week program of support that offers continued treatment for substance use and co-occurring disorders. Most people need to continue in some sort of outpatient program until they’re adjusted to a sober lifestyle.
