Avalon Treatment Centers
About Avalon Treatment Centers
Avalon Treatment Centers is a licensed outpatient drug and alcohol treatment program serving Tallahassee and surrounding counties in Florida. The center provides substance abuse assessments, group counseling, DUI intervention programs and batterer intervention services for both court ordered and voluntary clients ages 18 years and older.
When detox services are required, they can refer you to local resources to address your needs. Treatment is built on an educational approach using proprietary curriculum developed by founder Joanna Johnson, MSW, CAC, CCFC, who brings 30 years of professional experience and 40 years of personal recovery to her work.
Outpatient Addiction Treatment With An Educational Focus
Avalon specializes in outpatient substance abuse treatment for early, middle and late stage dependency, with individualized programs ranging from 12 to 32 sessions. The center’s curriculum is based on Stepping on the Stones, A New Experience in Recovery, a manual written by the founder that covers topics including denial, enabling, family dynamics, consequences and powerlessness.
Group counseling sessions use an educational lecture format that helps clients understand what substances do to the body and brain while addressing the psychological and spiritual aspects of recovery. Clients appreciate the founder’s empathetic approach rooted in lived experience, with reviews highlighting exceptional training and encouragement throughout the program. Treatment plans are customized based on bio psychosocial evaluations completed by intake specialists.
Court Ordered Services and Legal System Support
Avalon works extensively with the Department of Corrections to provide treatment for probation clients and individuals mandated by the courts. Services include DUI evaluations and intervention programs, batterer intervention groups, anger management courses and expert witness testimony in judicial proceedings across multiple circuits.
Avalon serves clients in person at its Tallahassee and Crawfordville locations and through telehealth for most courses, with wheelchair accessible facilities and flexible day and evening program times. The center is licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families for intervention services.
Payment options include private insurance and self pay, with group sessions and specialized programs available at accessible rates.
