About Northpointe Council

Northpointe Council has supported men and women from the Greater Niagara Area of New York in their fight against substance use disorder for over 50 years. Their services combine compassionate treatment with prevention education, early intervention and emergency responses. They support individuals from detox and residential services to outpatient treatment.

They operate a detox and residential facility called the First Step Center. It’s southeast of Niagara Falls State Park and the Underground Railroad Heritage Center. Being publicly funded makes Northpointe services readily accessible. You’ll enjoy high-quality and life-saving care without a heavy financial burden.

Substance Use Crisis Support & Stabilization

Individuals with primary substance use disorders and need high-intensity and structured support enroll at the First Step Center. This residential facility has 24 beds divided into seven medical supervised withdrawal and 17 for stabilization. You’ll ideally begin recovery with medically supervised withdrawal. This short-term phase manages symptoms under 24/7 expert supervision and support.

Medical and non-medical detoxification are provided. Medical detox is more closely monitored and includes prescriptions of FDA-approved meds to ease symptoms or manage any psychiatric or medical issues that may arise. This is if you’re dealing with severe symptoms. Otherwise, you’ll detox via the non-medical route that focuses on supportive care like hydration, nutrition and emotional support. Either way, the emphasis is that withdrawal is as safe as possible.

Once detox is completed, you’ll transition to the stabilization unit to prepare you physically and emotionally for the next phase of your recovery journey. This program may integrate medication assisted treatment (MAT) if clinically relevant. Adequate psychiatric counseling addresses underlying or co-occurring mental health issues. You may be referred to Northpointe’s outpatient care or other community recovery services for continued care as you graduate from this program.

  • Inpatient

Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.

Detox Service Setting

  • Inpatient Detox

Inpatient detox occurs in a dedicated treatment facility. You’ll live there around the clock and receive intensive medical support and supervision to help manage your withdrawal symptoms. It is suitable for individuals with moderate to severe addictions as it ensures a stable detox environment.

  • MAT

Medication assisted treatment combines medication and counseling to manage withdrawal and reduce cravings for opioid and alcohol addiction. Medications may include methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone. MAT is tailored to your needs so you can actively participate in your treatment journey.
