About Kelly House Program – Closed
The Kelly House Program was a women’s residential treatment center based in Wilmington in North Carolina. They closed in June 2024 soon after their founder, Mary Kelly, passed. They provided compassionate substance abuse care to pregnant women and women with children under the age of six months.
They ran as part of Easter Seals PORT Health. While Kelly House didn’t offer detox or medication assisted treatment (MAT), they would refer you to other PORT Health locations for detox services targeted addiction to alcohol, drugs, and opioids.
Keep Your Children Close During Recovery
Mothers in recovery often find it difficult to juggle their recovery and their responsibilities as a parent. Kelly House made it easier to navigate the challenges of caring for a young child while also beating substance addiction.
The program included individual and group counseling sessions where residents learned about addiction and practiced practical skills to avoid relapse. They also partook in parenting classes to learn invaluable skills about motherhood and raising healthy children.
A Welcoming Home in a Warm Community
One thing special about Kelly House was the way residents were able to embrace the local community throughout their stay. They could stroll through Independence Mall for an indoor shopping experience or visit the Cotton Exchange of Wilmington for a historical shopping and dining setup.
When residents needed a quiet moment for reflection or relaxation, they could visit the serene Airlie Gardens. This garden had 67 acres and offered the perfect spot to get in touch with nature, and featured blooming azaleas, camellias, magnolias, and wisteria throughout the year.
