About Berks TASC
Treatment Access and Services Center (TASC) helps individuals in Berks County find the right path to recovery. They may refer you to facilities that offer detox services or medication assisted treatment.
TASC also offers medication assisted treatment for inmates through their Jail MAT Project. A great thing about this organization is they’re licensed by Pennsylvania’s Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) and operate under the Council on Chemical Abuse (COCA).
Substance Use Assessment and Referral Support
TASC primarily provides substance use clinical assessments for County residents without private insurance or those publicly funded through Medicaid. They operate on a walk-in, first-come and first-served basis, so arriving early is recommended.
After the assessment, TASC will help you secure funding and placement at a level of care that’s appropriate for your needs. This could be inpatient detoxification, outpatient or residential treatment depending on your assessed needs.
Medication-Supported Recovery for Incarcerated Individuals
TASC provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services for opioid or heroin-dependent inmates at Berks County Jail System (BCJS) through a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD). Under this program, eligible inmates are prescribed Suboxone or Vivitrol as part of a personalized recovery plan to ease withdrawal symptoms and cravings following assessment.
Clients then attend 12 weeks of evidence-based counseling to tackle underlying psychological issues and build effective coping strategies to prevent relapse. They’re referred to a MAT aftercare provider upon release from prison and their Medicaid benefits are activated to support continued care. TASC monitors participants weekly to ensure compliance with medication and counseling while supporting their transition to a drug-free lifestyle.

Levels of Care
-
Inpatient
Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
Detox Service Setting
-
Inpatient Detox
Inpatient detox occurs in a dedicated treatment facility. You’ll live there around the clock and receive intensive medical support and supervision to help manage your withdrawal symptoms. It is suitable for individuals with moderate to severe addictions as it ensures a stable detox environment.
-
Outpatient Detox
Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.
