About Jefferson City for Mental Health — Residential Recovery Center – Closed

Closed

Jefferson City for Mental Health’s Residential Recovery Center once worked with up to 20 kids and teens at a time, usually ages five to 17 who faced behavioral or emotional challenges. They helped youth in foster care, young people who’ve been through trauma and children with developmental disabilities. They closed in 2024.

Families were often referred to them by schools or child welfare programs, and non-binary youth were made to feel safe and supported. They accepted Medicaid and many major insurance plans.

Residential and Outpatient Substance Use Services

Substance use treatment here was personalized to fit each person’s needs and goals with input from the client and their family. Clients in residential and inpatient programs typically participated in up to 20 hours of activities per week, including individual and group sessions. I like that they also tried meditation and yoga to help reduce cravings and promote balance.

Treatment blended mental health support, therapy and educational help. You once received 24/7 care through inpatient crisis support, outpatient day programs, intensive in-home services and community-based programs. They also helped young people build emotional regulation skills and connected them to wraparound services so support continues even after they leave.

Reviews Highlight Supportive and Caring Staff

Reviewers described the staff as supportive, welcoming and helpful during difficult times. Many mentioned the teamwork among staff and the positive difference the care team had made in their lives. One client said, “I was treated with kindness and respect. I have received the best treatment and they have met my needs completely.”

Most reviews were positive, though a few mentioned scheduling or consistency issues. In fact, the reason they closed was due to staff shortage.

Jefferson County Setting Encourages Balance

In the foothills of Jefferson County, near both Lakewood and Wheat Ridge, the facility was minutes away from Crown Hill Park and the Rocky Mountain Greenway. The parks and trails provide a peaceful place for fresh air and quiet reflection.

Nearby schools, youth services and healthcare help add to the sense of support in the community. Denver’s cultural and community resources are just a short drive away so you’ll have access to more parks, cultural events and resources that support recovery and connection. So you can see that even though Jefferson is closed, there are other places nearby and within their network that can assist you.
