El Paso County Division of Detoxification and Substance Abuse

Formerly known as the El Paso County Community Detoxification Facility, it offered withdrawal management, physical assessments, discharge planning and short-term residential support for adults affected by alcohol or drug use.

The program was designed as a safety-net service, providing a safe alternative to emergency-room care for people experiencing intoxication or withdrawal.

Safety-Net Detox and Withdrawal Management

This program focused on helping adults make a safe initial transition to sobriety through medically supervised detox.

Certified addiction counselors provided withdrawal-management support, physical assessments and encouragement to enter ongoing treatment.

Beyond stabilization the program emphasized what came next.

Staff created discharge plans, connected clients to community treatment providers and offered on-site case management for housing, health care access and continued substance use disorder care.

Low-Barrier Access for Underserved Adults

The facility was built as a low-barrier entry point for adults age 18 and older, including uninsured individuals and people with criminal histories who might otherwise avoid care.

Health insurance was not required for admission, and entrants were not screened for warrants. They also provided Spanish-language support and services for people who were deaf or hard of hearing.
