About Mount Sinai Beth Israel

For a long time, folks in the Big Apple who needed assistance with substance abuse could have gone to Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City, New York. As part of the Mount Sinai network, their existing patients were referred to other Mount Sinai locations for treatment. However, they shut down in April 2025 and redirected clients to other branches.

They had an extensive psychiatry program that included their Addiction Institute of Mount Sinai (AIMS).

Inpatient and Ambulatory Detox

Their inpatient program started with medically supervised detoxification. This gave them a stable starting point for recovery. For people experiencing opioid use disorder, they offered ambulatory detox so they didn’t have to stay overnight.

After detoxing, patients could enter their inpatient program for round-the-clock programming and support, or start the outpatient program if they didn’t need intense treatment. They welcomed family involvement in both programs and offered spiritual counseling for anyone who found it helpful.

The Oldest Opioid Treatment Program in the U.S.

An impressive aspect of Mount Sinai is that they have the oldest and biggest network for opioid treatment programs. Their Beth Israel location formed part of this network to give patients access to this wealth of experience and knowledge.

A big part of this program was medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using methadone or buprenorphine. However, even though they’re closed, there are other centers nearby that can assist you.
