About VA NY Harbor Healthcare System 23rd Street

Part of the New York Harbor Health Care Network is the Margaret Cochran Corbin VA Campus. They provide a wide variety of primary care services including behavioral health treatment. This includes outpatient treatment for substance use tailored to the unique needs and experiences of veterans. It’s in New York City, New York.

The Margaret Cochran Corbin VA Campus is just a short walk from Skyport Marina, where you can enjoy a calming walk along the East River or spend a few moments in quiet contemplation after your clinic visit.

Helping Veterans Get Back on Their Feet

Each client accessing VA Health for substance use treatment receives a personalized care plan that’s sensitive to the issues faced by veterans, such as PTSD and problems readjusting to civilian life. Outpatient addiction services include group and one-to-one therapy to address the psychological impact of addiction, as well as education, job help, and social support to help get clients back on their feet.

Clients may also be eligible for medication assisted treatment (MAT), where clients are prescribed medication to ease their cravings and withdrawal symptoms while engaging in other therapeutic approaches, like counseling. In cases of severe chemical dependency, clients may be referred to an inpatient facility for medically monitored detoxification to help them wean off substances in a safe and controlled way.

A referral for mental health services is required at the Margaret Cochran Corbin Campus, but you can present without an appointment and may receive same day treatment in urgent cases. It’s great that this VA clinic is open around the clock, seven days a week, so there’s help whenever you need it.

Written by: Gemma Davison

BSc

Having struggled with her mental health, Gemma has spent much of her writing career focused on topics surrounding behavioral health and stigmatized health issues, such as eating disorders, depression, obesity, and sexually transmitted diseases. It was a natural step to write about addiction, with her background in Biology and Research Science playing a key role in understanding chemical dependency as a disease. By writing about drug rehabilitation in an accessible and compassionate way, she hopes more people will feel encouraged to seek help.
