About Western Arkansas Counseling and Guidance Center Inc
The Western Arkansas Counseling and Guidance Center has multiple locations in six counties, including this clinic in Fort Smith. They provide mental health and addiction treatment for adults and adolescents, including medication assisted treatment (MAT) for adults.
They’ve been around since 1972. The Guidance Center offers financial assistance, and no one is turned away because they can’t pay. They also accept Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance plans.
A Suite of Services for Youth in Sebastian County
I was impressed by how many services were available for young people. They offer mental health for all ages and adolescent addiction treatment for ages 13-17. They also have school based services that provide onsite therapists to help with counseling and medication management.
There’s also case management that helps youth develop social skills, strong communication and daily living skills. If you’re offsite, nearby attractions like Spartan Adventure Park can help you unwind and exercise between sessions.
Additional Support for All Ages
The Guidance Center also has crisis support, including mobile services. These mobile services can meet youth and adults where they are, de-escalate the situation, and provide assessments and referrals.
I also noticed the Drug and Alcohol Safety Education Program that offers court ordered classes for adults who have gotten a DUI or possession violation. They provide screenings and education to comply with court requirements.
