About Charlestown Recovery House

Charlestown Recovery House is one location of the Gavin Foundation in Massachusetts, offering a residential treatment program for men. The length of stay is four to six months during which the men practice the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Men offer peer support to newcomers and engage in community service.

CARF Accredited Residential Treatment

The house is accredited by CARF to provide residential behavioral health treatment with a focus on substance use disorders. They are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services.

Treatment is geared toward spiritual, mental and social recovery while strengthening relationships with the community, families and peers.

Peer Support Promotes Sobriety

Residents are expected to be employed or participating in education or vocational training. Household chores are shared among residents.

We often communicate better and open up more to our peers. As a new resident, you will have peers who are supportive and encouraging. As you have been at the house longer, you will be that peer for others.

Referral for Detox

Those applying are expected to have already completed detox treatment and be medically cleared for a residential program. Although the home does not offer detox services, it can refer you to a treatment facility where you can detox and possibly return to the home for residential treatment.
