Pensacola sits in Escambia County, one of the hardest-hit communities for opioid overdose in Florida. For several years running, the Pensacola Medical Examiner’s District has reported the highest opioid death rate in the state, more than double the Florida average.
That context matters when searching for a detox center here: Pensacola providers are experienced with high-acuity opioid cases, fentanyl-involved withdrawal and co-occurring substance use, and the local treatment network has been expanded and coordinated specifically in response to that crisis.
One significant local resource is the Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE) program, a free, state-funded initiative run by Escambia County EMS that connects people who have experienced an opioid overdose with immediate medical stabilization, medication-assisted treatment and long-term recovery support.
CORE launched in Escambia County in early 2023 and has helped more than 600 patients as of 2026. Providers and families can reach CORE at (850) 477-HELP.
Uninsured residents of Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, or Walton counties may qualify for state-funded treatment at Lakeview Center, which operates a 46-bed residential program and outpatient services in downtown Pensacola.
All drug and alcohol detox facilities in Pensacola must be licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) under Chapter 397, Florida Statutes and Chapter 65D-30 of the Florida Administrative Code.
These regulations set minimum standards for staffing, medical oversight, detox protocols and patient rights. Facilities providing mental health services alongside addiction treatment may also require licensure from the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).
The Northwest Florida Health Network serves as the managing entity for publicly funded behavioral health services across Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties.
