About Providence Behavioral Health Hospital Acute Treatment Services

Addiction to drugs or alcohol can have far-reaching effects on every aspect of a person’s life, including their physical and mental health, relationships, work and well-being.

The good news is that recovery from addiction is possible with the help of the right treatment program and aftercare plan.

At Providence Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke, our acute treatment services / inpatient substance use disorder treatment program can put you on the right track with the focused treatment, education,  and tools you need to safely stop using drugs or alcohol and live a productive, successful and satisfying life.

Treatment Options

Our Acute Treatment Services program is for both men and women who are addicted to drugs or alcohol, and provides substance withdrawal management under careful medical supervision. Most individuals receiving treatment are experiencing symptoms related to stopping opioids (heroin or prescription painkillers), alcohol, benzodiazepines, or other sedatives.

Our comprehensive program includes:

  • Management of substance withdrawal syndromes under medical supervision by an ASAM Certified Medical Director, using medications when indicated
  • Medical evaluation and treatment, including specialized services for pregnant women
  • Laboratory and toxicology testing, including testing for HIV and Hepatitis
  • Daily individual and group counseling
  • Education on addiction and treatment options
  • Case management and referrals to care
  • Intensive aftercare planning and connections with community-based outpatient services
  • Support for patients in regards to maintaining abstinence and entering recovery

To help our patients manage their illness after they’re discharged from the hospital, we offer each patient care throughout our continuum with linkage to our intensive outpatient programs, traditional outpatient services and opioid treatment programs for treatment with methadone or buprenorphine.

Patients are linked with community providers who can provide the aftercare services they need to maintain and add to the gains they’ve made in our program. These providers include primary care physicians, mental health providers, case management services, and longer-term residential treatment.
