Elevated Sober Living
About Elevated Sober Living
McKinney, Texas, is home to beautiful parks and historic buildings, but did you know it’s also home to Elevated Sober Living? This program serves adult men looking for additional help with the following treatment before they return to fully independent living. It’s a former mansion turned into a community living residence.
As a sober community, there is an emphasis on peer support after you complete detox or an inpatient program. No medication or clinical services are offered, but they can refer you for specialized care if you relapse. Otherwise, you’ll be helping fellow men navigate their own recovery challenges, as well as running the house. New residents must commit to at least 90 days.
Sober living programs like this one don’t work with insurance and instead require a weekly fee.
Support Inside and Outside the House
Residents are encouraged to find support with one another, using the residence as a support network, not unlike what you’d find in your local community. However, working within the framework of a support group can be beneficial for some. That’s why the rules of the house require each resident to join outside support groups like AA and NA.
Having exposure to these groups gives you a small taste of the options available to you, but more importantly, it gets you out of your comfort zone and out into the community itself. You’ll meet new people and get exposure to even more perspectives you can use on your recovery journey.
The Comforts of Home
The men’s house is designed with every resident’s comfort in mind. It’s a mansion consisting of large, open space rooms and equipped with amenities supportive of recovery, like their recovery library and meditation room, as well as relaxation and fun, such as their pool table). The best part is that the house is located in a private country club neighborhood, ensuring the utmost peace and privacy for everyone. High-speed internet and breakfast is included.
Shared Transportation
A unique feature I haven’t seen at similar programs is the community vehicle. Residents share this vehicle and can use it when they venture out into the city. I like how this makes it even easier to connect with the community and its recovery resources, including Elevate Life Church for spiritual care.
