About Turning Point IOP
Turning Point in Franklin, Pennsylvania is now closed but it was situated on 24 acres of wooded land overlooking the Allegheny River. One of the three buildings on the property was the mansion of a lumber baron who built the mansion in the 1890s.
This rehab’s 65 bed residential treatment center accommodated adults who were needing treatment for substance use disorder. The center used the disease model of addiction, recognizing and treating addiction as a disease like any other medical condition.
Inpatient medically monitored detox was available for withdrawal symptoms and safety of the clients. Suboxone was prescribed to those with opioid use disorder.
Multiple Levels of Residential Rehab
Following the detox process was a residential program. Short term residential treatment lasted from 7 to 42 days. The length was determined by each client’s needs and progress and the program consisted of group therapy, relapse specialty groups, anger management specialty groups, and educational lectures. Individual counseling was provided twice per week.
Long term inpatient treatment lasted from 60 days to one year. In addition to therapies and activities offered during short term residential, the long term program assisted clients in preparing for and completing their GED. They also taught clients skills for finding jobs, securing jobs, and financial management.
Recreation for a Healthy Recovery
Fun and relaxing activities were integrated into the client’s schedules. They enjoyed volleyball, bowling, canoeing, and other outings.
Clients were transported to peer support groups in the community too. A family program offered education on substance use every Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Families were provided lunch and were able to stay until 5:00 pm to visit with their loved one.
