About Roots To Recovery Outpatient Program

Roots to Recovery is a dually licensed outpatient program operated by The Center for Great Expectations, providing substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The program offers individual counseling, group therapy, family counseling and intensive outpatient services that are adapted to each client’s goals and circumstances.

Through its Trauma CARE model, Roots to Recovery fosters a respectful, supportive setting where individuals move at their own pace and develop recovery plans that address emotional, physical, social, and spiritual wellness.

Trauma Informed Care For Co Occurring Disorders

Roots to Recovery focuses on treating co-occurring disorders by addressing substance use and mental health conditions at the same time. The Trauma CARE  approach is relationship centered and aims to strengthen cognitive, emotional, behavioral, physical and spiritual capacities. The model recognizes the impact of trauma, domestic violence and sexual abuse on recovery and integrates that understanding into care planning.

Sessions may include cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention strategies and anger management techniques within a structured and respectful environment. Clients participate in individual, group and family sessions that explore how trauma influences current behavior patterns while building practical skills for long term stability. The program emphasizes individualized care, encouraging clients to take an active role in shaping their recovery experience.

Medication Assisted Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder

Roots to Recovery provides medication assisted treatment with buprenorphine and naltrexone for individuals recovering from opioid use disorder, including dependence on heroin, fentanyl and prescription pain medications. Medication assisted treatment is combined with counseling, peer recovery support, and naloxone education to promote safety and reduce the risk of relapse. This integrated approach supports both physical stabilization and emotional growth throughout the recovery process.

They serve adults age 18 years and older and young adults throughout Middlesex County at its New Brunswick clinic, which is located within St. Peter’s University Hospital and accessible by public transportation.

The program accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and military related coverage. Sliding scale payment options and state funding may be available for individuals who qualify.
