About Straight & Narrow
Straight & Narrow is an addiction treatment center in Paterson, New Jersey offering comprehensive care for adults struggling with substance use disorders. Founded in 1954 and operated by Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson, it is the oldest community based residential treatment facility for drug and alcohol addiction in the United States.
The program provides medically monitored detox and separate residential treatment for men and women, intensive outpatient services and supportive housing to help clients while they’re on the road to recovery.
Detox and Specialized Programs for Women
Treatment often begins at the Detox Hospital, where clients receive twenty four hour medical supervision during the withdrawal process. From there, men can transition into short term or long term residential programs offering individual and group counseling, vocational training and case management.
Women have access to three specialized residential tracks, including programs for pregnant and parenting women, those involved with child protective services and Drug Court participants.
Stepping into Outpatient Care
Clients stepping down from residential care or needing flexible scheduling can participate in outpatient or intensive outpatient programs. Services incorporate evidence based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and medication assisted treatment with Suboxone or methadone.
Other services include twelve step facilitation, family counseling and relapse prevention. Straight & Narrow also addresses co-occurring mental health disorders, trauma and barriers to recovery through case management and employment counseling.
