About Respite Center
Respite Center is a short-term residential crisis stabilization program in Athens, Ohio operated by Hopewell Health to serve adults experiencing mental health crises or struggling with substance use disorders. Although it does not provide detox specifically, the program offers a voluntary home-like alternative to psychiatric hospitalization, with stays of up to seven days designed to support stabilization and connection to ongoing recovery resources.
With integrated behavioral health services and peer support, Respite Center takes a personalized approach to help individuals build coping skills and transition safely back to the community. The team may offer referrals for guests requiring higher intensity care.
Crisis Stabilization
Respite Center provides a safe, supportive residential environment where individuals can stabilize during a mental health or substance use crisis. The program is designed as a bridge between higher levels of care and independent living, offering structured peer support, counseling and connection to community-based resources in a setting that feels more comfortable and less restrictive than a hospital.
Recovery Support
Services include outpatient counseling, treatment for substance use disorders (including alcohol and drug use) and integrated care for co-occurring mental health and addiction needs. Hopewell Health’s broader network offers psychiatry, behavioral health counseling, and recovery supports that allow Respite Center clients to transition seamlessly to ongoing outpatient or community services after their short stay.

Levels of Care
-
Outpatient
In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.
-
Dual Diagnosis
Dual diagnosis programs address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions simultaneously. This integrated approach to care improves the likelihood of long term recovery and stability by addressing the root causes of addiction.
-
PHP
Partial hospitalization programs provide comprehensive treatment in a structured setting during the day but allow you to return home at night. These programs offer a balance of inpatient and outpatient rehab and provide intensive support without full time residency.
Detox Service Setting
-
Hospital Detox
Hospital detoxification allows you to withdraw from drugs or alcohol in a hospital setting. It’s ideal for people with severe withdrawal symptoms or complex medical needs. You’ll receive constant monitoring, emergency care if needed and FDA approved prescription medications.
-
Outpatient Detox
Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.
-
MAT
Medication assisted treatment combines medication and counseling to manage withdrawal and reduce cravings for opioid and alcohol addiction. Medications may include methadone, buprenorphine or naltrexone. MAT is tailored to your needs so you can actively participate in your treatment journey.
Programs
-
Adult (18+)
Adult programs address the substance use and life challenges specific to adults. Therapists can deliver sessions in individual, group and family settings. Services often include job support and life skills training in a structured environment.
