About America’s Recovery Center

A branch of Behavioral Health Services, the American Recovery Center is in Pomona, California. They offer residential treatment services for people with substance use disorders. Serving the people of east Los Angeles County, the American Recovery Center is located just off Highway 71, with good transport links.

Safe and Supervised Medical Detoxification

Clients with chemical dependencies so severe that it would be dangerous for them to try to get clean on their own can undergo a safe and supervised medical detoxification at the American Recovery Center. Clients are medically supervised around the clock and administered medications that calm cravings and help the management of uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms, like anxiety, muscle aches, and nausea.

The goal of medical detox is to keep the client as comfortable as possible as illicit substances are flushed out of the system. The program typically lasts between 10-14 days, and during that time it’s great that clients are introduced to self-help programs such as AA and NA, learn about addiction as a disease, and receive referrals for community support and continuing care.

Transition into Residential Treatment with Ease

If clients need continued structure and support to engage in their recovery, they’ll go straight from detox into the residential program, where they’ll work intensively on their issues. The duration of the residential program is generally between 3-6 months and includes individual and group counseling, psychoeducation, medication assisted treatment, vocational training, and psychiatric care as appropriate.

BSc

Having struggled with her mental health, Gemma has spent much of her writing career focused on topics surrounding behavioral health and stigmatized health issues, such as eating disorders, depression, obesity, and sexually transmitted diseases. It was a natural step to write about addiction, with her background in Biology and Research Science playing a key role in understanding chemical dependency as a disease. By writing about drug rehabilitation in an accessible and compassionate way, she hopes more people will feel encouraged to seek help.
