About Friendship House Women’s Lodge

Friendship House Women’s Lodge is a residential program near Oakland, California. Women who are members of the Indigenous community can access comprehensive care to reach recovery.

A Phased Approach

A great feature that stood out to me was their phased approach. You’ll start treatment in their six month residential program to get to the root of addiction and gain essential coping skills. After completing this phase, you move on to ongoing support.

They help you improve your life skills and family situation for long term stability. You’ll also have continuous access to case management, counseling and relapse prevention support.

Blending Cultural and Modern Interventions

What strikes me most is their emphasis on cultural competency. As this is an Indigenous led organization, you can participate in traditional approaches, such as talking circles and sweat lodges. They complement care with modern methods including behavioral therapies and medication assisted treatment (MAT). You’ll benefit from an inclusive space with professionals who deeply understand your challenges and experiences.

Empowering Client Experiences

I was happy to see that most clients enjoyed their services. Many appreciated the culturally affirming care and felt that their experience was transformative. Clients felt empowered and applauded their nonjudgmental team. Several highlighted the significance of traditional Native practices in their recovery.
