Male Community Reentry Program
About Male Community Reentry Program
The Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) is a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation pre-release program in Sacramento serving eligible male incarcerated persons nearing the end of their sentences.
The program offers substance use disorder treatment, mental health care, recovery groups, family reunification, education, employment assistance and housing support.
MCRP is built on the belief that rehabilitation works best when treatment is paired with real-world reintegration, giving men the chance to finish their sentence in the community instead of behind bars.
Reentry-Focused Substance Use Treatment in Sacramento
MCRP blends residential-style placement with structured substance use disorder care, including support for alcohol, drug and opioid recovery.
As a state-run reentry program, it combines clinical treatment with correctional oversight, including mandatory electronic monitoring as a condition of participation.
Each participant receives an individual assessment that shapes a phased treatment plan, with privileges and responsibilities expanding as progress is made.
Recovery groups, aftercare planning, and health care services work together to address the underlying drivers of substance use while preparing men for sustained sobriety after release.
Whole-Person Support for Successful Reintegration
Beyond addiction treatment, MCRP addresses the practical challenges that often fuel relapse and recidivism. Participants receive help with employment readiness, education, family reunification and securing housing, alongside mental health care and social support.
A Stanford evaluation cited by CDCR links longer MCRP participation with lower rearrest and reconviction rates.
Access and Enrollment
MCRP operates from a Sacramento location and accepts eligible male participants from California counties through the CDCR referral process, serving adults and young adults ages 18 and up in a community-based residential setting.
