About Steps Inc
STEPS Inc is a nonprofit outpatient substance use treatment program in Bakersfield, California, offering DUI education, adult and minor substance use counseling and outpatient drug-free services across Kern County.
Located on Mount Vernon Avenue, across from Bakersfield College, the program delivers ASAM-based assessment, outpatient and intensive outpatient care.
Established in 1964, STEPS combines community safety education with evidence-based counseling to support lasting recovery.
Outpatient Addiction Treatment through Living in Balance Program
Treatment typically begins with orientation and an ASAM-based assessment to determine the appropriate level of care. Clients may enter outpatient treatment (Level 1.0) at less than 9 hours per week or intensive outpatient treatment (Level 2.1) at 9 or more hours per week when medically necessary.
Programs include individual counseling, group counseling, family therapy, crisis intervention, drug testing, discharge planning and referrals for medication assisted treatment.
Evidence-based curricula include the Matrix Model, Living in Balance and Seeking Safety, with individual sessions available in person, by telehealth or by phone.
