About UPAC New Leaf Recovery Center

The Union of Pan Asian Communities (UPAC) is a health and human service agency dedicated to improving the overall well-being of San Diego, California’s underserved and vulnerable communities. They primarily offer substance use treatment and mental health care alongside services that support community engagement and business development. Clients can also receive medication assisted treatment here.

They primarily target Asian and Pacific Islander (API) adults and transition-age youths (TAY) alongside refugees and immigrants who reside in San Diego County of California. They also extend support to individuals involved in the criminal justice system. Support is available for both Medi-Cal and uninsured individuals to streamline accessibility.

Minimizing Withdrawal Symptoms Through Medication

Individualized support may integrate medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to ease withdrawal symptoms and minimize relapse risk for clients navigating opioid use issues. As patients are taking medication, they will participate in counseling to uncover the causes of their addiction, and learn healthy coping mechanisms.

Tailored Care For Transition Age Youth

The organization’s Expanding Horizons program is San Diego County’s first outpatient substance use recovery initiative tailored to meet the recovery needs of transition-age youth (TAY). This includes individuals between the ages of 18 and 25. Adults between the ages of 26 and 29 may also be supported through the program.

The program helps members of the TAY community reclaim stability and purpose through personalized weekly therapeutic support that’s culturally responsive, gender specific and age appropriate. Family involvement is encouraged through supportive counseling and opportunities for open communication that strengthen trust and healing. Additional services incorporated in the program are peer support, weekly artistic expression groups, and monthly prosocial activities that foster connection and build confidence.

Levels of Care

  • Inpatient

Inpatient and residential programs provide round-the-clock medical and emotional support as you live at the treatment facility. This level of care may be recommended if you have severe addictions or mental health conditions since it removes outside distractions and allows you to focus solely on therapy.

  • Outpatient

In outpatient therapy, you’ll attend therapy sessions several times each week while living at home. This is ideal if you have a strong support system and a lower risk of relapse. Outpatient treatment offers flexibility to maintain work, school or family obligations.

Detox Service Setting

  • Inpatient Detox

Inpatient detox occurs in a dedicated treatment facility. You’ll live there around the clock and receive intensive medical support and supervision to help manage your withdrawal symptoms. It is suitable for individuals with moderate to severe addictions as it ensures a stable detox environment.

  • Outpatient Detox

Outpatient detox gives you access to medically supervised withdrawal services while still allowing you to live at home. You’ll attend a clinic for treatment and monitoring. This flexible option is suitable for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who have strong support systems.

Programs

  • Alcohol Detox

Alcohol detox programs offer medical support to help individuals withdraw safely from alcohol. Your care team may use medications to ease your symptoms and provide medical monitoring to address complications.

  • Drug Detox

Drug detox programs support individuals who are withdrawing from addictive substances like cocaine and heroin. Medical support helps you manage symptoms in a controlled and safe environment so you can achieve initial sobriety.
