Building a Solid Foundation in Oakland, California, offered services for the homeless and for those with substance use issues. They relied on donations to serve the underprivileged needs in the community.
Gender Specific Recovery Centers
They offered a recovery center for men and women and an urgent shelter for women and children. Recovery treatment included education on and following the 12 step program, learning relapse prevention and the administration of random drug and alcohol testing.
While in recovery, you participated in social development which involved interaction with the public, improvement of reading skills and learning social manners.
Reintegration Support
You learned about money management, goal setting and goal achievement which assisted you in reintegrating into your community after leaving the center.
Though the center did not provide detox services they referred you to a local treatment facility that provides this service. You may have been able to seek outpatient detox treatment while residing at the recovery center.
Recovery Center as a Spiritual Sanctuary
Many of us work through emotional and other types of issues through our belief in a higher power. The center offered a spiritual sanctuary through Sunday church, daily Bible studies and motivational speakers.
