Compassion Care Center in Los Angeles was a behavioral treatment center that offered services for adolescents, adults and military service personnel. As a community center, they offered a variety of services for needs in the community.
Counseling Supports Mental Health and Substance Use Issues
Although they did not provide detox services, they did refer clients to local treatment centers. Counseling was available to clients for substance use, mental health issues, those suffering from mental and physical abuse and counseling for the abuser.
Services for Adolescents
The center offered suicide prevention services. They worked with youth who were at risk or who were already experiencing a mental health or substance use issue.
Anger management and impulse control classes and counseling were available. Probationer assistance offered to those on probation helped with employment, housing, treatment, education and other services.
Program for Veterans
A veterans program assisted homeless veterans with housing and referrals for medical, psychological and physical needs. Transportation was provided for clients to medical and other approved appointments.
Spiritual Guidance
The center offered spiritual guidance and mentorship for those who wanted to strengthen their connection with God and reconnect with their beliefs. Clients could discover their life’s purpose and learn how to rely on God for healing.

Kimberly Hawkins holds a Masters degree in Computing and Information Sciences from East Tennessee State University. Gayle Morris, BSN, MSN, received her bachelor’s from the University of Illinois Chicago Medical Center and her first master’s from the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. She practiced nursing for over two decades with a focus on pediatric physical rehabilitation, which required mental health skills to help children, and their parents work through new challenges after a head injury or spinal cord injury. She has been a freelance writer in health, wellness, and mental health for over 15 years. She loves exercise, her dogs and guinea pigs, and gardening.
