About BHC First Step at CMC/Union

First Step Behavioral Health with Atrium Health Union Hospital in Monroe, North Carolina, offers behavioral health services. They are located on the hospital campus.

Medication Assisted Detox

The center treats substance use disorders, dual diagnosis and mental health disorders. If you have used substances for some time and/or have used excessively, you may need inpatient medical detox to manage withdrawal symptoms. Detox uses medications and therapy approaches to manage withdrawal symptoms.

We know that many substance users use more than one substance. The center can also treat multisubstance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.

Therapies for Substance Use

Electroconvulsive therapy treats severe depression and bipolar disorders that have proven to be treatment resistant. The therapy stimulates the brain to promote chemical changes.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) uses magnetic pulses to stimulate and repair brain signals. This therapy is used to treat depression and other mental health conditions that have proven to be treatment resistant.

Evidence Based Treatments

Other therapies used include DBT, CBT and motivational interviewing. Outpatient programs consist of adult partial hospitalization, child partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs, school based therapy and sports psychology.

The center provides counseling and client assistance with the legal system during DWI offense processes. We know that substance use often causes discord between couples. Relationship counseling is available at the center.
